GVTC presented to the United Nations Agencies in Nairobi

On this May 16, 2018 GVTC Executive Secretary Dr. Muamba Tshibasu Georges, accompanied by Mr. James Byamukama Programs Manager and Mr. Juvenal Mukeshimana, Executive Secretary Assistant had a meeting with UN Agencies based in Nairobi Kenya.
After the sideline meeting that GVTC ES had had in Goma with H.E the Special Envoy of UN Secretary General in the Great Lakes Region, the two authorities had agreed to hold a meeting with relevant UN AGENCIES BASED IN Nairobi to explore ways and opportunities of formalizing partnership and collaboration. It is in this respect that on GVTC request, this meeting was arranged by the office of the Special Envoy of the UN Secretary General in the Great Lakes Region. Were present in that meeting:
On the 16th May 2018, GVTC held a meeting in Nairobi (Kenya) with United Nations Agencies based in Nairobi. That meeting aimed at exchange information between institutions and explores different ways of collaboration. GVTC delegation was led by Dr Georges Muamba Tshibasu, Executive Secretary, accompanied by James Byamukama, Programs Manager and Juvenal Mukeshimana, Executive Secretary Assistant.
GVTC was presented to UN Agencies by pointing out the origin of this intergovernmental institution, its scope and how it functions. The presentation detailed also the status of Greater Virunga Landscape in terms of biodiversity richness, opportunities and threats.
UN team appreciated GVTC outcomes and deliverables and noticed that there exists synergies between the UN interests with GVTC interests especially the converging area between conservation and peace and security. Parties agreed to deepen the analysis of collaboration and cooperation areas as GVTC activities which have a focus on wildlife conservation and tourism development have also impact on peace, security and stability in the region.
