Workshop on the Theory of Change to sustain GVTC objectives achievement

From the 27th to the 28th January 2015, GVTC organized a workshop at Lemigo Hotel in Kigali (Rwanda). The aim of this workshop is focused on the theory of change to bring together GVTC partners to determine how change can be made in the Greater Virunga Landscape to achieve the common goal in conservation.
The opening remarks were given by Mr Telesphore Ngoga, The Conservation Division Manager of Rwanda Development Board and Representative of the GVTC Board Chairperson, Ambassador Yamina Karitanyi.

Participants are members of the transboundary collaboration (Rwanda, Uganda & DRC) engaged in the conservation of biodiversity and natural resources in the Greater Virunga Landscape. Among them, researchers, protected areas authorities and political leaders, members of cooperatives supported by GVTC and its partners, etc have who have attended the meeting under the facilitation of Mrs Kadi Warner from the Netherlands Embassy in Kampala (Uganda). They realized how the concept and notions of theory change are so important to sustain GVTC efforts and the materialization of this intergovernmental institutional committed in conservation in the Greater Virunga Landscape in regards to its strategic plan recently revised to achieve the GVTC objectives by 2018.

The partner institutions invited to the Theory of change workshop include UWA, RDB, ICCN, OVG, INES, URP, WCS, BMCT, Imbereza Gahunga Cooperative, Veterinary Doctors, the Provincial Government of North Kivu (DRC) represented by H.E. Enselme Kitakya, the Provincial Minister of Environment, Nature Conservation and Tourism. Many other GVTC partners who have contributed to the GVTC strategic plan in previous years are invited to give their inputs on the theory of change and the achievement of the GVTC mission and mandate in the Greater Virunga Landscape.
The GVTC Executive Secretary, Dr Georges Muamba Tshibasu, welcomed the participants and thanked the GVTC donors, in particular the Norway, the Netherlands, the International Gorilla Conservation Program (IGCP) who are currently supporting the on-going GVTC projects for conservation in Rwanda, Uganda and DRC.
