From the 29th to 31rst Oct. 2018, in Musanze (Rwanda), Search for Common Ground organizes training sessions on Conflict Resolution and Transformation without violence, catalyzing positive social change.
Search for Common Ground (SFCG) collaborates with the Greater Virunga Transboudary Collaboration (GVTC), the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam (VU), and Ghent University to implement a project titled “Enhancing Capacities in Natural Resource Management and Conflict Resolution for Stability and Inclusive Growth in the Greater Virunga Landscape.” To achieve project objectives, SFCG, in partnership with GVTC, conducted a conflict mapping in Rwanda, DRC and Uganda. The aim of the conflict mapping was to have a picture of current conflicts and means of resolution in Greater Virunga Landscape (GVL) in order to create a tailored trainings and courses to enhance regional skills on how to find sustainable solutions. In November 2018, training will be organized for 40 Protected Areas Authorities (AAs), GVTC staff, Stakeholders involved in Natural Resources Management.
The purpose of the training is to enable participants to understand the win-win solution that is a result of understanding differences and discovery of shared interests; this transforms conflict without violence catalyzing positive social change. The Common Ground Approach adopts an experiential approach to learning. The training toolkit consists of 11 modules designed to convey knowledge, generate skills and modify attitudes effectively, each module incorporates different methods of lesson delivery (experience, presentations, discussion).
The outcomes of those training sessions consist of having a total of 40 people trained as trainers in conflict transformation and the Common Ground Approach. This training is conducted in two sessions, one session in French with 20 people; 5 people from Rwanda and 15 people from DRC. Another session in English with 20 people: 5 people from Rwanda and 15 people from Uganda.
